Generations appreciated each other’s many talents during a showcase at a care home in Forest Gate.

Barchester Westgate House in Romford Road held a talent show with residents George Lee singing songs along with Florence who played the piano, while staff including Graham the chef played his guitar, Roger from maitenance sang La Bamba in Spanish and Rhona from the care team recited a passage from a play.

But it was young performers from the Azonto All-Stars who brought down the house with their interpretation of a traditional Ghanaian dance and they were voted the overall winners by residents at Westgate House.

Ingrid Rodriguez, who works on the activities team at the care home, said: “The integration of the generations is always a pleasure for all concerned and now that Westgate House Care Home is able to cater for young disabilities, senior citizens and, in our special Memory Lane Unit, citizens with dementia-related illnesses, it is a pleasure to integrate for all concerned through special events.”

The Westgate residents also held sports competitions where Rose Gibbons, a member of the darts team at the old Two Puddings pub in Stratford, beat the other residents to a trophy.
