Tesco Extra in Gallions Reach has raised more money than any other store in London for the company’s National Charity Partnership with Diabetes UK.

The store has raised over £10,000 towards the £10 million raised nationally through the partnership.

Tesco colleagues and customers raised the incredible amount within the first twelve months of the partnership and the money is still being counted.

Colleagues at Tesco Gallions Reach in Armada Way, Beckton have taken on challenges and held fundraising events in stores, including last year’s Big Collection.

Roz Rosenblatt, Diabetes UK Regional Manager for London, said: “We know that all the Tesco stores in London have been working hard to raise money for Diabetes UK but the Tesco Extra in Gallions Reach has pipped them to the post with their incredible amount.

“We are hugely thankful for their fantastic fundraising efforts and to all of those customers who have dipped into their pockets.

“As the partnership continues there will be more activities taking place in Tesco stores across London, and we hope local people continue to support our work in supporting all people living with or at risk of diabetes.”

The £10 million has been invested in a variety of ways including developing a Type 1 diabetes vaccine, the biggest ever public awareness campaign on Type 2 diabetes and supporting newly diagnosed people at Living with Diabetes Days.

The money will help 70,000 people to find out if they are at risk of getting Type 2 diabetes and help extend the opening hours of the diabetes helpline and providing over one million people with information about diabetes.
