Super sub Jarvis strikes in fifth minute of stoppage time to seal Orient’s win

Full-time Orient 2 Peterborough 1

Orient kept their play-off push alive with a goal deep into stoppage time.

Ryan Jarvis the forgotten man at Brisbane Road this season came off the bench and headed home a cross from Jason Crowe in the fifth minute of stoppage time to sink promotion-chasing Peterborough.

Orient had taken the lead when former O’s defender Gabby Zakuani put through his own net on 68 minutes. But Peterborough, who edged the game, levelled through substitute Nathaniel Mendez-Laing.

But in a drama drenched finish Jarvis emerged from the shadows to head the winner.

A delighted Orient boss Russell Slade said after the game: “The win keeps our season alive. The push for the play-offs is still on. We will keep fighting.”

HERE’S HOW THE ACTION UNFOLDED:

18 mins - It’s all Peterborough at the moment and Adam Barrett, making his 500th league appearance, is booked for a foul on George Boyd.

TEAM NEWS: Orient boss Russell Slade makes one change to the side beaten at Exeter City last weekend as central defender Terrell Forbes returns to the side.

He partners Adam Barrett at the heart of the defence, with Elliot Omozusi switching to full-back.

It’s a game O’s need to win to keep their outside chance of a top-six place alive.

Peterborough are also looking to keep their hopes of an automatic promotion place alive and make just one change to the side that beat Plymouth Argyle last weekend, as Lee Tomlin comes in for the injured Tommy Rowe, who has a groin problem.

Two Posh players, defender Gabriel Zakuani and substitute goalkeeper Paul Jones, both started their careers at Brisbane Road.
