Ten parks across the borough will be take part in a pilot to launch a free activity programme designed to get families to get active this summer.

The programme, called Coca-Cola Zero ParkLives, is part of Coca-Cola Great Britain’s commitment to invest £20million between now and 2020 in programmes to encourage and support people to be more physically active.

In its first year the programme will be run in several places across the UK including London over the summer months, with organised activities taking place in more than 70 local parks nationally. The intent is for the programme to roll out to even more cities and boroughs in 2015 and beyond. The initiative will be launched in Newham in partnership with Newham Council and will involve ten parks including Keir Hardie, Plashet Park, Little Ilford Park and Stratford Park.

On July 24 hundreds of people will experience the fun first hand at a launch event at Stratford Park from 10am-4pm.

Sir Robin Wales, Mayor of Newham said: “The London 2012 Games were won on the promise to inspire a generation and encourage more people into sport. As the main host borough, we’re doing our bit to fulfil that promise. We launched Newham’s every child a sportsperson programme to give our young people the opportunity to try new activities and become more physically active. Our partnership with Coca-Cola Great Britain will enable us to build on this scheme and reach even more of our residents, helping them to live healthy and active lifestyles.”
