East Village, E20

Beloved of Kim Kardashian, a hot craze on Instagram, now mermaid toast is coming to East Village – and you can get some for free.

The transformation of the humble breakfast staple comes after cupcakes, milkshakes and even coffee received multicoloured makeovers to make them like mythical animals – including unicorns.

But true to mermaid form, “food artist” Miss Trixie has decided to theme her East Village offerings after the Disney interpretation of the classic fairytale The Little Mermaid.

She will be offering 500 free slices in four different versions at East Village Market on Sunday from 11am.

Will you go for The Ariel – a pastel bright strawberry and mint concoction – and or a moody, dark ocean scene complete with blackberries and Nutella Oreo Yoghurt in honour of her nemesis, Ursula?

Food artist and baker extraordinaire Miss Trixie explains: “I’ve had such fun creating something which is as beautiful to eat as it is to look at. I can’t wait to see what people think of them at the East Village Market.”

Mermaid toast might seem like a flight of fantasy too far, but if you love free food or online trends, head to East Village on Sunday.
