A proud Newham woman, Violet Pavey, was born in Stratford and spent much of her life in East Ham, looking after the children of well-to-do families before becoming a live-in companion for an elderly lady.

Staff joined in the celebrations at Manor Farm Care Home, in High Street South, on Friday, July 10, and even MP Stephen Timms dropped by to wish her a happy birthday.

“She’s a remarkable woman,” said Michael Hodgson, partner of Violet’s niece Margaret Osborne.

“Her health is suffering slightly but she’s still perfectly normal – she reads and writes just like anyone else.”

Nurse Dianah Kamara, 45, looks after Violet and was delighted to see everyone enjoying themselves.

“It was a really nice day,” she said. “Violet’s a really nice lady and always make us laugh.

“It was a lovely opportunity for everyone to come together and join in the celebrations.”
