Illustrator and gallery manager, Tim Hutchinson, is releasing a new picture book.

When he’s not working at Hackney’s New Art Projects gallery, the 46-year-old is busy drawing and creating new ideas for picture, pop-up and educational books.

Tim, of Capel Road, Forest Gate, has had more than 40 artworks and books published.

His latest book, Stuff You Should Know About the Human Body, is set to come out just in time for Christmas.

“It’s been brilliant, it was really hard work and like doing a mini medical degree,” he said.

“It was a project I was given by a publisher because they had a writer already and needed an illustrator.”

Tim has high hopes for his new release, although he isn’t expecting to start working as a full-time illustrator.

“It’s going to do really well for me and has got me into a really good publishing house,” he said.

“I have got a lot of work with it, but you never know when a job is going to come along.

“I would love to do it full time, but they’re working well together.

“Some nights when I’m sat up at four in the morning, I think I should do this full time.”

Tim originally trained as a fine artist after taking a foundation course at Chelsea College of Art and then going to Goldsmiths College to study for a degree.

“After that I worked as an artist. I exhibited and staged numerous exhibitions in London and across the UK and Europe,” said Tim.

“At the same time I worked in several London galleries as a curator and exhibition manager.”

Tim then went on to study for an MA in curating and commissioning contemporary and fine art at the Royal College of Art.

He then moved on to working as an art handling technician at Tate Britain and the Tate Modern and for years, before finding a love for illustrating in his spare time.

He said: “I have worked at the gallery for 10 years and have worked on illustrating alongside that.

“I have always been able to draw, but just needed to find a way of making a living.

“It’s a great job and I love doing it.”
