Residents held a charity car wash on Sunday to raise money for the victims of the Nepal earthquake.
Members of the SKS Swaminarayan Hindu Temple, raised £1809 for the Disasters Emergency Committee appeal and washed more than 120 cars at the Shaftesbury Road car park, in Forest Gate.
Kishore Varsani, a member of the temple, said: “It was fantastic with so many eager volunteers to help with this fundraising event.
“We had an amazing support from the councillors and MP Stephen Timms who came on the day.”
He added: “An estimated 8 million people have been affected by the devastating earthquake. We share the suffering and sorrow of the families affected.”
Councillor Ken Clark and MP Stephen Timms also attended the event.
Councillor Clark, cabinet member for building communities, public affairs, regeneration and planning, said: “The news of the devastating earthquake in Nepal shocked everyone across the world.
“We pride ourselves on our community spirit in Newham and this event is just one way our residents come together to support those in need where ever they are in the world. “I was delighted to be able to play a part in the car wash for such a worthy cause, and that so many people took part and gave generously.”
People can still donate to the cause by visiting the temple in Shaftesbury Avenue.
