Members of the armed forces were honoured at a ceremony at Newham Town Hall.

Cadets from the 282 East Ham Squadron Air Training Corps joined residents and Newham Mayor Sir Robin Wales for the flag-raising event in East Ham to show their continued appreciation for servicemen and women past and present.

At the ceremony last week, Sir Robin said: “We fly the flag to recognise the bravery, past and present, of the men and women of our armed forces who consistently rise to the challenge we ask of them, no matter what difficulties they face.

“They defend our interests every day by promoting peace, delivering aid, providing security and fighting terrorism. They make many sacrifices to keep us safe and totally deserve our support.”

The flag flew from Newham Town Hall to symbolise support for serving troops, families, reservists, veterans and cadets in the run up to National Armed Forces Day on Saturday.
