Firefighters this morning tackled a blaze at a house in East Ham thought to be caused by an electrical fault.
The ground floor of the derelict property in Thackeray Road sustained significant damage, with the stairway and the kitchen the worst hit areas.
At its height 15 firefighters battled with the flames.
East Ham firefighters revisited the house later this morning and estimate that it the downstairs was 25 per cent fire damaged and 100 per cent smoke damaged.
Three fire engines from East Ham and Plaistow stations were called at 12.30am and had the fire under control by 4am.
