A fire at a scrapyard in Canning Town which could be seen for miles around has been brought under control by firefighters.

Nearly 60 firefighters and eight fire engines were called to Bidder Street shortly before 3pm after scrap material and part of a shipping container caught fire.

An LAS spokeswoman said: “We were called at 3pm today to reports of a fire at an address on Star Lane.
