Father Denis Hall of Our Lady of Compassion died on Wednesday after a heart attack at home.
The Upton Park priest He was pronounced dead at Newham University Hospital after 48 years serving the church.
Father Samuel Ussher Homiah will take over his leadership.
“He was a man for the people,” he said. “Whoever knocked at his door, he would welcome.”
A final mass for Father Hall will be held tomorrow at 11am at St Antony of Padua, Forest Gate.
