Happy New Year! 2015 has been a fantastic year on Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park and I hope you enjoyed all the park has to offer.

We’ve had millions of visitors here enjoying fantastic events like the Rugby World Cup, Great Newham London Run and the Sainsbury’s Anniversary Games.

One of my favourite events was The Big Lunch, when thousands of local residents shared a picnic with their neighbours, family and friends.

This year is looking even more exciting. Olympicopolis, our plans to create a world class education and cultural district on the park, is moving forward in leaps and bounds. We’re going to be out and about getting your views to shape our plans- we want you to help build on the fantastic arts and culture that already exists in east London.

In the spring the world’s longest and tallest covered tunnel slide will open, at the ArcelorMittal Orbit, giving you new ways to enjoy breathtaking views of the park and across London. And then you can grab tickets to see Premier League action in the stadium when West Ham United play their first match in their new home.

The Rio 2016 Olympic and Paralympic Games are now only a few months away, and you can see some fantastic elite sport on the park in the next few months as athletes prepare for the Games.

In March, the Lee Valley VeloPark will see the world’s top track cyclists return to the velodrome to compete in the UCI Track World Championships, and then in May the London Aquatics Centre will host the European Aquatics Championships, with more than 900 athletes expected to compete at the last major event before Rio.

June sees the GB women’s team go head to head with other Olympic hopefuls, and then the London Anniversary Games returns in July for one of the world’s biggest athletics events.

Finally, if reading about all this sport has inspired you, then come to the park! We’re running free fitness and sports sessions as part of our Active People, Active Park programme. There are activities on every day in January, for all ages and abilities.
