It’s normally pupils who train in the school gym, but one Canning Town headteacher used hers to prepare for a 10km fundraising run
Charlotte Robinson, who is in charge of Rokeby School, took part in the race at Victoria Park to raise money for the National Literacy Trust.
She had informed students at the Barking Road school that it was a lifelong ambition and put in the effort to prepare with runs around West Ham Park.
Completing the race in a Where’s Wally costume, she finished in a personal best time and raised £720.
She said: “I told the boys the importance of living a healthy lifestyle and keeping fit.
It has always been an ambition to compete in a race and the training has all been worthwhile.
“I chose to run for the National Literacy Trust as literacy is a focus for all students in our day to day work in school”.
