Family pay tribute to popular Manor Park postman

Keith Outten, 62, started out as a messenger boy in 1968 before becoming a postman. He continued to work for the postal service right up until his retirement in April.

He died at the Royal London Hospita,l Whitechapel, on May 8 following a short battle with bowel cancer.

Family, friends, former colleagues and local residents attended Keith’s funeral at the City of London Cemetery in Aldersbrook Road on Friday.

His son Kevin said his dad was popular among residents and had worked hard his whole life.

“My dad was hardworking and a loving and caring husband to my mum Teresa, father to me and my sister Tracey and granddad to my two children, whom he adored,” Kevin said.

“He lived in the area all of his life and was well known in Manor Park. He saw all the streets change over the years but always saw this place as his home.”

Kevin, 29, said his dad dedicated his life to his work, adding: “Over the years he built up a strong relationship with all his customers he met on all the different delivery walks he had been on.”

Shortly after his death, Keith’s colleagues held a two-minute silence at the office in Manor Park Road.

Dean Mcintosh, 41, who has worked with Keith for 18 years said: “He was an angel. He didn’t say a bad word against anybody. He was very popular among residents and even people who haven’t seen him for a couple of years still ask about him. He was a jolly man and will truly be missed by all at the Manor Park postal office.”

Kevin added: “My dad will be sadly missed by everyone. But I know he left us all with his big heart. I hope I can become as good a father to my two children as he was to me and my sister.”
