Watch out David Cameron, Newham pupils could be after your job soon after shining in a school leadership challenge.
A pupil-led committee at St Edward’s Catholic Primary School were given six months to plan a teaching training day, known as an INSET day, under the guidance of assistant head teacher Ms Natasha Pluckrose,
The Teaching and Learning Committee, formed of 11 pupils and one teacher, tracked the performance of school educational targets which were linked to the school’s School Improvement Plan (SIP).
Pupils conducted surveys, took photographs, interviewed pupils and met with governors.
They created material for the INSET day and presented their findings in front of teachers and the governing body.
Ms Pluckrose said the children showed “amazing leadership qualities”.
She said: “They were articulate and confident in the delivery of their presentation and even tested staff on curriculum knowledge.
“It was an amazing experience that really showcased not only pupils English and ICT skills but their potential as young leaders of the future.”
The school now plans to support other Newham Primary Schools who wish to develop the committee model.
