Currently the Dean of UEL’s Royal Docks Business School, and Head of UEL International, former Oxford and Harvard teacher Professor Nora Ann Colton has been appointed deputy vice-chancellor.

Dr Stella Cottrell, who previously worked in educational development at the university, has been appointed Pro-Vice-Chancellor, which covers learning, teaching and student engagement.

Professor Colton insists she is very excited to be at UEL.

“It is a value driven institution that does an excellent job creating social awareness and change through research led teaching,” she said.

“In my new role, I look forward to working with colleagues in contributing to the advancement of this University and its ethos.”

An expert in business education, Islamic Finance and Middle Eastern economies, Professor Colton spent four years at Drew University in America, before arriving at UEL in 2010.

Dr Cottrell is currently director for Lifelong Learning at the University of Leeds and has an international reputation for teaching and learning.

She said: “UEL has an excellent reputation for being passionate about its students, for its celebration of diversity and for its commitment to the community - all of which are very important to me.

Both Professor Colton and Dr Cottrell will take up their appointments in the New Year.
