A University of East London sports journalism student has netted a crucial media role during London 2012.

Andrew Bontiff withstood stiff competition from thousands of other applicants to be appointed Olympic and Paralympic News Service Coordinator.

The placement will see him working as an intermediary between the on-site reporters and the central editorial team, ensuring daily sports coverage is processed in a timely manner.

Andrew’s work will also involve managing the event ‘storyboard’ through which all news stories are tracked and organised.

He said he was proud to have landed the job, and will complete his university degree just before the Games start.

“After applying for the job in the university library, I was shocked to get called for an interview - let alone get accepted for the role,” he added.

“Being an East End boy and having the Games literally on my doorstep is an added incentive.”
