We all learn about the importance of eating healthy food and brushing our teeth at a young age, but how often are we told about healthy feet?
University of East London lecturer Dr Claire Duguid and three of her podiatry students aimed to teach pupils just that when they visited Maryland Primary School.
The trip, part of the podiatry and schools science project, was designed to raise children’s awareness of foot health and inspire them to take an interest in the science behind their feet.
It also aims to get pupils understanding the role of podiatrists and inform their parents about where to get help with foot issues.
Dr Duguid said: “It’s great seeing the children’s enthusiasm in carrying out their investigation into whether taller people really do have bigger feet, as well as their curiosity to learn more about their own foot health and what podiatrists do.”
She has been visiting schools in east London over the past four years as part of a mission to encourage children to think about podiatry as a career.
