Staff and pupils at the Bobby Moore Academy have welcomed the footballer’s widow, Stephanie Moore, to see the school’s new secondary site.

She took a tour of the Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park building, which will welcome pupils in September.

The current Year 7 pupils are learning in the smaller primary building, and once they move across, the first Reception pupils will be able to start at the all-through school as well.

Monday’s visit saw Stephanie unveil a commemorative plaque to mark the occasion, as well as speak to some of the school’s first pupils.

She said: “I am delighted to witness the astounding progress that has been made here.

“It is truly inspiring to see this impressive school situated within the heart of such an iconic location.

“I have no doubt that this is going to be a fantastic place for students to learn. I am so impressed with the school and cannot wait to see the students enjoy these world-class facilities in September.”

Pupil Gabriel Boateng was delighted to meet Stephanie during her visit.

He said: “It was a great experience meeting Stephanie Moore. She was really interested to hear more about what we have been doing at school.

“The new building looks amazing and I can’t wait to move over in September.

“I am so proud to be a student at Bobby Moore Academy, not many people can see the Olympic Park from their classroom window!”

The school, which is run by the David Ross Education Trust, will feature specialist science labs, a state-of-the-art sports hall and a roof terrace.

Rowena Hackwood, chief executive officer at the trust, said: “I am thrilled with the excellent progress at the secondary site of Bobby Moore Academy, which will provide a world-class education for our students.

“It is fantastic to see the school building progressing well, and there is no doubt that this will be an outstanding learning environment.
