Charles Claxton has been appointed Principal Designate at the Oasis Academy Silvertown which is due to open next September.

The academy, a new free secondary school just south of the Royal Docks, will take 120 Year 7 students.

Charles Claxton, who will take up his new post on January 1 2014, is currently Deputy Head of George Green’s School in Tower Hamlets. He has also held a number of senior leadership positions in schools across London. Mr Claxton, a modern foreign languages specialist, has been instrumental in raising teaching and learning standards at his current school, making significant gains in student achievement. He also has extensive experience in Extended Schools, and in supporting school leaders and local authorities on an advisory basis.

He said: “I am thrilled to be joining Oasis as the Principal Designate of the new secondary school in Silvertown. I look forward to welcoming the first intake of Year 7 students next September and working with each one of them and their families to help them to be the best they can be.”

Prospective parents and members of the wider community are invited to meet Mr Claxton at the next Oasis Academy Silvertown open evening on October 9. There will be two sessions from 4.00pm-5.30pm and 6.30pm-8.00pm. The meetings will take place at Britannia Village Hall, Evelyn Road, Silvertown.
