A mosaic depicting Plaistow’s famous local sites has been unveiled.
The mosaic, which is on the site of Upton Cross Primary School in Kirton Road, features images of Green Street Library, Upton Park tube station and Queen’s Market.
The mural was made as part of a project between creative social enterprise Art4Space and the school, in a bid to pay tribute to the local community.
Made up of professional artists, Art4Space works with housing associations, community groups and schools to connect communities through art projects.
In January 2017, the Art4Space team began working with pupils and families to design the mural. They then worked with community groups from across the capital to complete and install the mosaic.
It was installed during October half-term, and, at 45 metres long, is believed to be the largest school mosaic in London. It contains the work of more than 460 children and their families.
