Students from secondary schools across Newham will be taking part in a public speaking challenge to find the top three talkers.

The Year 10 pupils will be involved in the Jack Petchey Foundation ‘Speak Out’ Challenge, now in its sixth year, at Plashet School, Plashet Grove, East Ham tonight.

Public speaking training for the project, which is sponsored by the Jack Petchey Foundation, was provided by the Speakers Trust which has spent six hours with Year 10 pupils from each of the schools in the borough taking part in the challenge. Those who were thought to be the most effective at the end of the training days went through to the competition.

The three winners from tonight will get the chance to take part in the next stage of the competition.

The Grand Finals will be held at the Queen Elizabeth Hall on July 9.
