Pupils in Newham schools are using a new homework website set up by an east Londoner to help them with their studies. St. Bonaventure’s Catholic Comprehensive School in Forest Gate is one of 300 schools in the country using Show My Homework to organise their work.
Naimish Gohil, 31, founder of the site and a former assistant headteacher, set out to create an innovative web-based homework calendar that displays exact homework descriptions and deadlines written and posted by teachers.
Mr Gohil, who went to school at Brampton Manor School in Roman Road, founded the web-based homework calendar in 2011, for which schools pay a subscription fee, and which includes accounts linked to teachers, students, parents and classes.
Vivienne Qurrey, deputy headteacher of St Bonaventure’s, said: “It’s a simple and effective homework setting tool. Once seen, forever used.
“It helps me keep track of what I have set my students, and I like the idea that parents can always check what their child has been set.”
Mr Gohil said: “Parental involvement is lacking from home-learning and kids just don’t do enough of it.
“This simple system takes out all the leg work.”
He added, “It’s a great opportunity for parents to engage and be kept in the loop with their child’s learning - knowing exactly how much homework is being set is not easy to monitor, not for parents or teachers.”
Mr Gohil plans to launch a Show My Homework app for mobile devices.
