A new nursery play area has been opened at Elmhurst Primary School
PARENTS and staff joined excited children as an outdoor play area was opened at a primary school.
The new nursery grounds at Elmhurst Primary, Upton Park Road, Forest Gate, cost more than £100,000 and took a year to complete.
The area was officially opened amid excitement which was not dampened by wet weather.
The site has specially designed sections for digging, allotments for growing vegetables and composting, a stage for performances and sand areas, as well as large stones for climbing.
The ground also has areas for social and emotional development.
Headteacher Shahed Ahmed said: “It’s a spectacular outdoor area which children love exploring and learning from. It caters for all areas of the Early Years Curriculum.
“It will be a vibrant area that the children can move about in and for which the teachers can plan for.”
The nursery, catering for 120 children, had an outdoor play area but it was undeveloped.
The opening was attended by Cllr Quintin Peppiatt, Lead member for Children’s Services and chairman of Newham’s Children’s Trust.
