Children at Nelson Primary sang songs and listened to poems to mark the International Day of Peace last month.
The whole school gathered in the playground and held one minute’s silence to “think about how fortunate they are to live in a country that is not at war”, assistant headteacher Jo Cull said.
The school in Napier Road has recently gained the British Council International School Award, which recognises international learning of cultures.
It is also partnered with a school in Kenya which children donated money on the day to purchase a laptop so the two schools can communicate with each other via Skype.
It was held on September 21 and is an annual day dedicated to global ceasefire and non-violence which was first celebrated in 1982.
