Youngsters at the school took part in an interactive assembly with MP for Poplar and Limehouse Jim Fitzpatrick led by actress and safety specialist ‘Amber Green’ from the RSA and and Childrem’s Safety Education Foundation who presented them with a road safety teaching kit.

Mr Fitzpatrick also signed a pledge to raise awareness of the organisations’ Fit to Drive campaign that highlights the dangers of driving with poor vision.

He said: “I am really pleased to see RSA taking the issue seriously and I fully support their ongoing road safety campaign ‘Fit to Drive.’

“On an annual basis, around 20,000 children are injured in road accidents, with over 2,400 killed or seriously injured.

“It is vital that we do all we can to help reduce these figures and make both our roads and our communities as safe as possible.”

Head teacher Dee Bleach said: “We are delighted to be working with RSA in raising road safety awareness among children at Mayflower School.

“By engaging children in a fun and creative way, we hope it will make a positive and lasting difference to road safety awareness.”
