A group of drama students performed a series of dances to celebrate International Women’s Fortnight.

The Drama Department at Little Ilford School in Manor Park invited Year 9 and Year 10 girls, all studying GCSE Drama, to take part in a 5-week-long dance project to mark International Women’s Fortnight which occurred last month.

The initiative was a collaboration with the Laban Conservatoire based in Greenwich and was led by Natalie Robinson. She worked with the students and taught them a range of sophisticated dance techniques. They culminated in a series of dance performances which the girls shared with each other, and female members of staff in their final workshop.

Matt Young, Head of Drama, said: “The girls produced work of an extremely high standard, and a real difference was seen in the confidence of all of the girls who participated. The Drama Department is keen to see Dance develop throughout the school and the curriculum.”

Shannon Bassett, 14, said: “This dance workshop has taught me different techniques that I can use in Drama to help express our feelings”.

Davina Rattanpal, 13, said: “The best part was that you could be yourself and enjoy dance to the fullest.”
