A Royal Docks school is celebrating another good year of GCSE results, and is even sending 11 pupils on to full scholarships.
In total, 12 per cent of all grades achieved by pupils at Royal Docks Community School were A* or A grades.
Wendy Bower, the school’s headteacher, said results “were up” from last year and she was “very pleased”.
“We have 11 students who have received full scholarships to independent boarding schools to study A-levels because of their exceptional results,” she said.
One department singled out for its brilliant performance was the languages faculty.
Some 97 per cent of pupils who studied Spanish received A*-C grades.
“We are a young and enthusiastic team,” said the department’s head, Christopher Nott. “We all have a lot of energy.”
Among the high-performing students were Holly Powell who achieved one A*, four As, five Bs and one C and Jordan Benjamin, 16, who gained an A* in maths, plus five As and six Bs.
“I thought I would get a B in most subjects,” he said. “I am so happy.”
He now hopes to study maths, economics, English literature and film studies at A-level.
