The headteacher of Sarah Bonnell School has said she is “delighted” with how her pupils have done in the new-style GCSEs.

Seventy four per cent achieved a “standard pass” of a grade 4 or better in English and maths - equivalent to a C.

The Deanery Road, Stratford school saw 90pc achieve at least a 4 in English and 74pc in maths.

A quarter of pupils gained the top grades of A* and A or 7-9 in five or more GCSEs including English and maths.

Headteacher Rae Potter said: “I am delighted with this year’s results and especially with how staff and students have prepared for these tougher new GCSEs. It is testament to their hard work and talent that such outstanding results have been achieved.

“I would like to take this opportunity to congratulate all of our students and thank their parents and our staff for their support. I am so proud of them all.”
