The percentage of pupils at the Cheering Lane, Stratford school achieving grades 4 to 9 - equivalent to the old A*-C - rose from 69 per cent last year to 71pc.

Among those to achieve the top grade of 9 in maths were Ujan Shrestha and Enoch Kwabena Denkyirah.

Ujan, who also achieved grades 7 and 8 as well as five A*s and two As, said: “I’m so happy that I achieved the grades I wanted. All the hard work paid off in the end!”

Executive principal of Chobham Academy, Rebecca Hickey said: “I’m so proud of what all our students have achieved. They were well prepared for the new more demanding curriculum and grading system in English and maths and the results are a credit to their hard work.”

“I’d like to thank our wonderful students, parents and staff who have helped make today such a cause for celebration.”
