The first students to take GCSEs at Chobham Academy received their results this morning.

Overall, 69 per cent received five or more A* to C grades including English and maths.

The school, in East Village, Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park, only opened in 2013, with those receiving their GCSEs today transferring there at the start of Year 9.

Rebecca Hickey, executive principal of Chobham Academy, said: “This academy started from scratch and these students, who have been with us for just three years, have earned a highly impressive first set of GCSE results for themselves and their academy.

“Along with our staff they have worked incredibly hard and deserve this success. I look forward to seeing them in our flourishing sixth form in September.”

Among the high achievers are Muhammad Beg, who received nine A*s and two As, and Elyas Abaris, who received six A*s, four As and two Bs.

Faiza Abdi, Naina Karavadra and Justine Franco-Okedigun all picked up five A*s each among their results.
