Canning Town pupils were buzzing with excitement as they welcomed the newest addition to their school community.
Lucky students at Eastlea Community School in Exning Road celebrated the installation of a new beehive to join the other four in their ever-growing bee family.
Teachers and children gathered round for a bee awareness session that featured a bee-keeper instructing the amateurs how to care for and make the most out of their hives.
Industrious Eastlea bees even provide the school with their own honey and honey skincare products while Neal’s Yard, an organic skin and bodycare shop in Westfield Stratford City, donated wild flower seeds for the children to plant to help the bees pollinate.
Eastlea’s fifth beehive was made possible after teachers applied for a ‘Get the Party Started’ grant from Newham Council.
