Talented young musicians from east London have the chance to attend one of Europe’s most inspiring summer music festivals.

The offer comes from the Newham Music Trust and music charity Ponte Cultura. Successful musicians will find themselves jetting off to the spectacular Mediterranean island of Corsica from August 21 to August 31 where they will take part in a series of master-classes with top international performers and educators from classical, jazz and folk genres.

To audition you need to be over 18 at the time of the festival and playing at broadly grade 8 standard, although personality, inspiration and raw talent are equally important. Bursaries will take the form of a ‘full award’ which covers all fees including transport and accommodation or a ‘partial award’ which will take into consideration the participants ability to contribute to the fees.

Newham Music Trust, which is based at Newham Sixth Form College, Prince Regent Lane, Plaistow will be meeting applicants on April 7 to discuss the programme. The Trust wants to hear them play one or two audition pieces of their choice, each no longer than 5 minutes. If two contrasting pieces are performed, one needs to be from the classical tradition although this is not essential. You can also present an original composition as your second piece. The audition panel decision will be final and there is no right of appeal.

Anyone interested in the opportunity should apply as soon as possible by email to: Philip Castang at Newham Music Trust (Phil.Castang@newham-music.org.uk) giving their contact information, details of the instrument(s) you play and confirming their availability on April 7.

Ponte Cultura is an Anglo-Corsican project dedicated to building a cultural bridge between the UK and Corsica, and encouraging musically and artistically talented young people to meet and perform.
