The mother of murdered schoolboy Stephen Lawrence and a former Muslim figurehead will be awarded honourary doctorates from the University of East London (UEL) this week.
The UEL, which has campuses in Stratford and the Docklands, will present Doreen Lawrence with an Honourary Doctorate in Education for “her steadfast determination and refusal to give up on her campaign for justice” on Thursday at the 02 Arena.
Dr Muhammad Abdul Bari will be given the same award at the Greenwich venue on Wednesday for his work as the secretary-general of the Muslim Council of Britain and for “decades of community work across many faiths and people of east London.”
