Not many children learn to cook at a restaurant, but that is exactly what pupils at Carpenters Primary School have been doing.
Working with Las Iguanas’ branch at Westfield Stratford City, they have been learning how to plant seeds and saplings to grow fresh produce.
Students at the Friendship Way school were then taught how to use the food in dishes they can make at home.
Project co-ordinator Gemma Holmes, who has been working with pupils for a year, said: “I feel the planting session and the cookery session were two of the best that we have carried out so far.
“The children are always so well behaved and excited to take part and learn.”
A spokesman for the restaurant chain said it feels it has a social responsibility to educate pupils about healthy eating and create a sense of community.
