The first day of school is an exciting time for many - and when you’re among the first to ever attend your school, it’s even more so.

Bobby Moore Academy welcomed its first cohort of Year 7 pupils through its doors today, with 125 youngsters on the register.

When both the primary and secondary sections of the Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park school are full, it will cater for 1,560 pupils.

This year, the Year 7 pupils will be taught in the primary building while work on the secondary building, located just a five minute walk away, is complete.

Next September, they will switch to the other site to allow the all-through school to admit both primary and secondary-age pupils.

The purpose-built school, situated in the shadow of the London Stadium - an appropriate location for a school named after one of West Ham’s legendary players - boasts specialist facilities for science, sport and the arts, with youngsters also able to use many of the other venues within the park, including the London Aquatics Centre and the London Marathon Community Track.

Stuart Burns, principal at Bobby Moore Academy, said: “I am delighted to welcome our first set of students to their brand-new school.
