Award-winning historical author Philippa Gregory shared the secrets of her craft with Stratford sixthformers during a visit to the London Academy of Excellence.

She gave a talk about her career and the process of marrying history with fiction as well as giving a sneak peek into her latest works Fools’ Gold and The White Princess.

Gregory also answered questions from sixthformers and judged the winners of the school’s historical fiction competition.

Ginevra Earle, head of English, said: “The event was a great success, enabling sixthformers to engage with their academic subject in a creative forum. The sixthformers were grateful to have been given this rare opportunity to meet one of their literary heroes, and left feeling enthused.”

Gregory’s 2002 novel The Other Boleyn Girl was adapted into a BBC drama series and a film of the same name starring Scarlett Johansson and Natalie Portman.
