Of the 130 pupils who sat A-levels this year at the Boleyn Road, Forest Gate school, 20 per cent achieved A*-A, 50 pc A*-B and 75pc A*-C.

Headteacher Paul Halliwell said: “We did not expect to get the high level results of the highly selective establishments (based in Newham).

“We are so pleased that we have a comprehensive intake but we have received our highest results ever.”

Among those to receive the top grade was Fatima Ibrahim, 19, who achieved A* in sociology as well as B grades in religious studies and psychology.

The 19-year-old said the school “was really supportive”.
