A top US diversity specialist dropped into Newham College to discuss equality in the workplace.
Valerie Jackson met with principal Denise Brown-Sackey and other tutors to compare experiences either side of the Atlantic.
She learned of the progress made in the last 20 years in terms of the treatment of women and those from an ethnic minority background.
Ms Jackson added: “I feel that I can go back to the US having been armed with what I’ve heard. It’s almost as if you guys are a test case and you’re succeeding.”
Her employers, the law firm K&L Gates, are working with the college.
Mrs Brown-Sackey added: “I was one of the College’s first ‘equality girls’ but we wanted to make the College inside look like people outside.”
