Pupils from a schol in Manor Park learned chess with grandmasters on a school trip last week.
Around 60 Year Five children from Dersingham Primary School travelled all the way to the Olympia Conference Centre in Kensington on Tuesday (Dec 4) with 8 members of staff to sample some world class chess.
Charity Chess in Schools and Communities (CSC) gave the pupils a taster of a chess tournament by separating them into three groups for a chess lessons with grandmasters Chris Ward, Neil Macdonald or Sabrina Chevannes - who already teaches children at Ravenscroft Primary School in Canning Town.
The group even got to play with the same chess pieces as world champion Vishy Anand.
Next year CSC will be sending a chess tutor to Dersingham Primary and 13 other Newham primary schools.
