A woman who has played a vital role in turning a traditional careers service at Univeristy of East London around has been given a gong by the Queen.
Femi Bola, director of employability and student enterprise at the univefsity has been awarded an MBE for services to diversity.
Speaking after receiving her honour at Buckingham Palace, Ms Bola said: βIt was an amazing and humbling experience to pick up my MBE. I was truly inspired to be in the same room as people who had risked their lives in Afghanistan, or those who have supported people with HIV and Aids.β
Ms Bola, who lives in Lewisham, is said to have helped turn a traditional careers service into a proactive and high quality facility with a first-rate reputation. As part of her role Ms Bola helps equip students with the skills to attain and retain a job or start their own business.
