Pupils were among the first new visitors to scale the ArcelorMittal Orbit tower in the Olympic Park when it reopened last week.
Students at Colegrave Primary School, in Henniker Road, Stratford, were taken on a Park in Progress tour by ITV London News who wanted their expert opinions on the new attractions.
One of them was the Anish Kapoor designed Orbit viewing platform which opened after a five month renovation on March 28 with 30,000 tickets going on sale to the general public online.
Once they reached the top of the bright red 115m high structure, reporters interviewed the youngsters about what they thought of the new attraction.
Comments ranged from the enthusiastic: “Someone told me you could see the whole of east London and it’s really amazing!” to the slightly more timid: “I am quite scared of heights but it’s really nice.”
Peter Tudor, from the London Legacy Development Corporation, said: “So many people want to see the park and to know why it is changing because they loved it so much when they were last here.
“Of course, when you take away the toilets, shops, the McDonald’s and all the people, what you end up with is concrete.
“Part of the chance to visit is for people to understand that new things are coming but that it looks like this at the moment.
“It is also to try and make sure they understand that where the venues are changing they are evolving for people to use.”
