Up to 230 pupils could be forced to move into temporary accommodation while a new permanent building is built.
Plans for the creation of 11 classrooms, a multifunction hall space, and playgrounds for the Oasis Academy Silvertown on a 1,477sq m site off Rymill Street, Silvertown, have been handed to Newham Council.
The interim development, which could also feature a multifunction hall space, an administration office and limited car parking, would also cater for 34 staff members and be used until September 30 2018.
The secondary school was launched by the London-based community charity and academy provider, Oasis, in conjunction with the council in September 2014 with just 82 students.
However, the academy is preparing to hand in another planning application in the coming months to build a permanent building on the site of the former Silvertown fire station, in North Woolwich Road.
