A teacher and a school governor have had their commitment to education recognised with honours from the Queen.
The headteacher of Kingsford Community School in Beckton, Joan Deslandes, has been made an OBE for her services to education, whilst Marion Faust, who is chair fo the board of directors at Brampton Manor Academy in East Ham, has been made a MBE for her own services to the sector.
Joan is also a governor at the Lonn Academy of Excellence in Stratford, and has been named as one of London’s most influential educational thinkers several times by the Evening Standard.
Under Joan’s leadership, Kingsford School has repeatedly rated as “outstanding” by OFSTED and became the first school in the UK to put compulsory Mandarin on its curriculum.
Meanwhile, Brampton Manor Academy students did so well in last summer’s GCSE and A-Level results that its name trended on Twitter as people across London celebrated their success.
