Stephen Timms MP visited a Beckton technical training charity last week for a crash course in mechanics.
The MP for East Ham met staff and motor mechanics apprentices during his visit to Beckton Skills Centre, in Hillcroft Road, on Friday.
The centre has “drastically reduced” places for apprenticeships this academic year, staff told him.
They blamed “confusion on funding issues for employers” for discouraging companies from hiring apprentices in the wake of a predicted post-Brexit skills shortage.
The Labour MP “enjoyed speaking with learners”, they added.
