The National Youth Theatre has teamed up with housing association L&Q to present a play about homelessness to pupils at three of the borough’s schools.
Youngsters at Lister Community School, Eastlea Community School and Chobham Academy will be able to watch the play next month, with the audience invited to consider the consequences of actions.
Pupils will even be allowed to take on the role of some characters.
The partnership aims to educate young people about the link between unemployment and homelessness.
It also aims to recruit participants onto the National Youth Theatre’s Playing Up programme, which uses theatre to engage at-risk 19 to 25-year-olds and equip them with life skills and qualifications.
Matthew Corbett, director of the L&Q Foundation, said: “Working with the National Youth Theatre gives us a fantastic platform from which to engage local young people and educate them about social issues which are not always taught in schools.”
