A summer school is opening for teenagers in Newham who are interested in fashion, technology and the arts.
East Education is taking place over two weeks in Stratford’s Olympic Park, and will offer courses in fashion, printmaking, engineering, and archaelogy.
It’s being run by the V&A museum, the University of the City of London, UAL’s London College of Fashion and Sadler’s Wells. The institutions are creating a new cultural and education district, known as the East Bank, at the park, and as part of the plans, they’re looking to work with young people from the area.
Courses include a week-long spoken word and dance programme run by Sadler’s Wells, and a shoe-making course from the London College of Fashion.
Courses are free, open for 13-16-year-olds and run from July 30 until August 17. To apply for a place, download an application form and return it to SummerSchool@QueenElizabethOlympicPark.co.uk by July 13. Priority will be given to applicants from Newham, Hackney, Tower Hamlets and Waltham Forest.
Application forms can be downloaded here.
