A voluntary organisation that has spent more than a quarter of a century bringing people together recently showcased its achievements.

Conflict and Change, which is based in Streatfield Avenue in East Ham, held an open afternoon attended by staff, volunteers and people who have used its services.

Volunteers talked about experiences of empowerment and the skills they have acquired through their interaction with Conflict and Change. Some said these skills have taken them into new avenues within their lives and communities.

Supporters spoke about their experiences of working with Conflict and Change and the positive impact on their clients and local communities. One young person who was trained at the age of 12 spoke about how the experience had changed his life.

Anthony Ferguson, Managing Director, acknowledged their commitment. He said: “Their immense and valuable contribution is what allows us to exist, leave a legacy and carry out the work we do.”

Dr Graeme Betts, Executive Director of Strategic Commissioning and Community for Newham Council, also attended the event which was called Behind the scenes at Conflict & Chang. He said he was impressed with the variety of contributions from everyone present and the strength of the themes. He also said how apparent it was that Conflict and Change benefits the local community, empowers its clients and volunteers.
