East Ham’s self-made technology star Naimish Gohil has a global vision for his business.
The 34-year-old, who founded Stratford-based firm Show My Homework, which has been renamed Satchel recently, has big plans for the year a head with more applications in the pipeline, including online tutoring and teacher support.
Naimish, who grew up in Lonsdale Avenue, East Ham, started the company in 2011 and has kept expanding each year, with this year kick starting with his team being named The Assignment Report’s company of the year.
“My vision is to build a global business from East London,” he explained.
“We’re not going anywhere, as it’s such a cool place with lots happening.”
The former Brampton Manor pupil is keen to get his mission truly kick started this year, after branching out his company into more fieldslike tutoring, as well as to customers in the Middle East.
“We have some of the best schools in places like Qatar and Abu Dhabi on board,” he said.
“There is a big problem out there with tutoring, where people are not using actual teachers.
“We think that’s really important to have actual teachers, as 46 percent of London students get tutoring.”
Mr Gohil said his homework calendar is used by one in every three schools while his company, in Cam Road, is keen to employ more local people.
“They’re a lot of parents and children in Newham where education is the only way to change their lives,” he added.
“There are a lot of immigrants and refugees that are banking on it as well.”
The tech whizz believes having a teaching background has helped him create numerous applications and also made his company a success.
“Having the background of being a classroom teacher and being a student you see it from both sides and that really helps you have a better understanding.
“I just thought I could have a bigger impact, when I was working as a teacher I could impact a classroom of children, now we have a million users on IOS and Android logging in everyday.”
He also explained the reasons for his companies name change.
“Show my Homework is very subscriptive, where as a satchel stays with you.
“Behind every bag there is many stories, as that bag has been on many journeys with you.”
